Hey,
Nice to know you’re here.
I would like to take you back to the creation of Wild Awake Outdoors. So grab yourself a cuppa and enjoy reading a little extract of my story and why Wild Awake Outdoors.
To describe where my passion for wild things unfolded I have to wander far back on memory lane. It wasn’t something that I always knew, because of my childhood for instance. No, in this case it was my own discovery and curiosity that took me on this path, my path to where I am today as you are reading this. After graduating from school I detached myself from my safe boundaries at home and just went off into the unknown. To see the wide world, which for me has only existed on TV. And so I squeezed everything I could into a 70l backpack with all I thought I would need for the next year ahead. Little did I know what I was stepping into and who I would become on the other end of this journey.
I was the happiest when my feet touched the barren soil, when I was dressed like a local and when I got to know such simple ways of life in extraordinary places.
I found myself waking up next to sacred rivers on Aboriginal land, hiked solo across an untouched island for days on the East Coast of Australia, crossed the jungle of Borneo by hitching a ride, tried to reach the Magic Bus in Alaska and experienced another way of life staying with a Fijian family. The spark for the raw and wild things was ignited. Now I was hungry for more. Eventually I returned back to Munich, Germany where I am from and after a degree in Geography I was again finding myself on the other side of the world, continuing my fulfilling adventures to wilder places until my travel cup reached full capacity again and my pockets were empty. However, dependence on the city for work didn’t stop me from searching for my own wild corners around me.
I bought a map of a new area, packed my gear and off I went into the woods or up the mountains, to find the peace and simplicity that has shaped me ever since my travels.
I didn’t know an exact route or precise outcome, I just wanted to be out there. Under the sparkling stars, with the pondering rain on my shelter, sensing the smell of the trees and being touched by the breeze squeezing through the branches. Here I felt content and safe. My journey took a turn when the urge to share these adventures with others was undeniable, so I signed up for a course to become a certified Nature Trekking Guide. And from then on I slowly transitioned, turning guiding into my full-time purpose. Eventually I furthered my education in Finland, where I am now based, with a diploma in Wilderness and Nature Guiding.
Sometimes you see me hiking in the Alps, up in Norway or leading groups on snowshoes in Northern Finland.
If I had to pick my favourite it’ll be ski trekking into the wilderness or camping in the snow. I like variety and I want to show you the best of it. See it, feel it, smell it, do it! And here we are after many years of gathering experience on various kinds of tours, it was overdue to create our very own ones for you. Precisely designed and selected to give you the chance, too, to be awake. Wild awake outdoors! To strengthen our connection to nature and ourselves again. To slow down and shift our focus from doing to being. That is what I want to convey. But at the same time showing you the wonders of a remote corner whilst stepping out of your comfort zone once in a while. 🙂
Wild Awake Outdoors is offering a selection of winter tours for now, slowly expanding and designing new nature experiences in the future, all year-round for small groups. Many ideas are already in place. Our backyard has just so many possibilities…
